Pollinators like bees and butterflies are crucial to the environment. They play a vital role in the reproduction of many plant species. Many crops, including fruits, vegetables, and nuts, rely on pollinators for their reproduction. They help support the growth of wild plants, which provide habitat and food for other animals, and contribute to the overall health and stability of ecosystems.
Our pollinator-friendly mosquito control targets mosquitoes and reduces mosquito populations while keeping pollinators safe. MissQuito offers botanical mosquito treatments from March through the end of October.
Botanical Mosquito Spray
Our botanical mosquito treatments are made from naturally occurring substances, typically plant-based oils. These natural ingredients are generally less toxic to pollinators and have minimal long-term effects on their health. Because these products have limited residual effects, you’ll need to apply mosquito control more often than synthetic mosquito control.
Mosquito Traps
The In2Care exterminates only mosquitoes targeting both larvae and adults. The active ingredients attract female mosquitoes to lay their eggs inside of it. The larvicide kills any larvae. The biological fungus attaches and eventually kills the adult mosquito. The active ingredients bind to the adult. She carries it to other hard-to-find mosquito breed grounds. This will effectively knock down the mosquito population in your yard.
Standing Water Treatments
Commonly known as Mosquito Dunks, they are a safe and effective way to control mosquito larvae in your backyard. They are small, donut-shaped discs that contain a naturally occurring bacteria called Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI) which specifically targets mosquito larvae.
To use mosquito dunks, simply place one dunk in any standing water around your property. The dunk will slowly release the BTI bacteria, which is toxic to mosquito larvae but harmless to other animals, plants, and humans.
DIY Pollinator-Friendly Mosquito Control
The most effective way you can control mosquitoes in your yard is to target breeding sites. The ideal place for adult mosquitoes to lay eggs depends on the species and their preferences. However, in general, mosquitoes prefer to lay their eggs in stagnant or slow-moving water where the larvae can develop undisturbed.
Empty standing water at least every 7 days.
Mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnate, still water. Mosquitoes don’t tend to lay in moving water. Waterfalls in ponds keep it moving and circulating. Empty standing water and make other water sources like ponds flow.
Some of the most common areas with standing water and mosquito larvae:
- Clogged gutters
- Toys and containers that collect water
- Sagging tarps or other covers
- Areas under outdoor faucets or air conditioning drains
- English ivy (The dense nature of ivy allows it to hold in pooled water where mosquitoes can breed, provides a humid area that mosquitoes like, and protects mosquitoes from pesticide sprays.)
Reduce shady, moist areas of your yard.
Clear out shaded areas where moisture-laden areas build up. Mosquitoes can breed in the moisture contained in leaf litter.
Use BTI products in moist, shady soil. These do not hurt bees but kill mosquito larvae. This is a bacteria that targets only specific types of insects. In the case of mosquito BT members of the fly family not the bee family.
